The police were looking for the shooter. The area around the shooting remained closed during Monday morning rush hour.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

“I’m scared. I live in this neighborhood, two blocks from here, and it’s not safe. It happens all the time,” a Ridgewood resident said.

On Friday, the city’s latest crime statistics showed an improvement in gun crime. 118 shootings took place in May compared to 172 in May 2021.

In May 2019, only 61 shootings were reported.

According to Deputy Commissioner John Miller, the drop in gun crimes is the result of a targeted approach.

“We’re rounding off seven weeks of steadily declining shootings,” Miller said while invited to Cats Roundtable with John Catsimatidis. “It’s not an accident, it’s the result of a strategy the Bronx had been driving for a while in shooting stats, we flooded the Bronx with cops. Our gun arrests are at an all time high. level for 28 years, we’ve been firing on all cylinders,” Meunier said.
