Easy Star Records applauds the hard work of Jesse Royal | Entertainment

Jesse Royal is being applauded by Easy Star Records, the New York-based label responsible for releasing his album Royal, despite not winning the Grammy for Best Reggae Album on Sunday.

According to label CEO Eric Smith, Jesse Royal’s album was “special” and they wouldn’t have done it any other way.

“We submit all of our releases to be considered for Grammy nominations. But we felt we had something extraordinary on our hands with the Royal album and we were hoping it would get the nomination it deserved,” Smith said. Smith said: “A lot of hard work and thought went into creating Royal. First and foremost by Jesse himself, but also by the whole team. The musicians, star artists, producers, management and label have all rolled up our sleeves to help Jesse see his vision through.”

American reggae band SOJA, short for Soldiers of Jah Army, won the award with their ninth studio album beauty in silence. Before leaving the stage, the members of the reggae group, which has been around for two and a half decades, expressed their gratitude to all the nominees and thanked Jamaica for being an inspiration to them.

Jesse Royal has spent the last 10 years making his mark in the local reggae space and has found his niche as a prominent figure in the reggae revival movement, “so we’re very proud to be part of this beautiful album, little doesn’t matter what happened today [yesterday at the Grammy Awards].
