BTS K-Pop Stars Named IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year

K-pop sensation BTS, whose catchy and catchy songs have won legions of fans across the globe, has won the 2020 IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year award, said Thursday the representative body of the recorded music industry.

The seven-member group enjoyed huge success in 2020, becoming the first Korean pop group to reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, with the English-language single “Dynamite”, and securing their first major Grammy nomination.

The group, which debuted in 2013 and has led the K-Pop campaign in the United States in recent years, was also named Artist of the Year by Time magazine.

“BTS is a worldwide phenomenon. They have had another exceptional year, releasing three albums and continually finding creative and engaging ways to share their stories with the world, ”IFPI Executive Director Frances Moore said in a statement.

“They really show the power that music has to bring joy and happiness to people all over the world.”

IFPI said the award takes into account an act’s global performance in digital and physical music formats over the year.

American singer Taylor Swift came second in the IFPI World Artist Rankings while Canadian rapper Drake was third.
